Buying Stainless Steel Cable Ties: What's on the label?

There are several different types of stainless steel cable ties that have a variety of uses and are tailored to particular environments. When shopping for the right stainless steel cable tie, it is important to know what to look for to suit your particular needs. The label details the information you need to choose the correct cable tie.  Here we explain some common terms, that are most often found on package labels.
Quantity
The Quantity refers to the number of cable ties in each packet. Depending on your job, you can choose less or more to complete your task.
Type
Type refers to the clasping mechanism:   e.g., rollerball ties use a small metal ball inside the clasp; ladder ties use a tooth and perforations in the tie; releasable ties use metal ears that can be opened and closed. The type of cable tie you choose should be the most efficient for the job at hand.
Length and Width
The length and width on the label are essential in choosing the right cable tie to fasten your object.   Length should include the circumference of the objects being fastened, the distance through the clasp, and a tail for gripping by tool or hand.  Choose a width for strength, surface pressure, or to fit an aperture.  Generally, a wider tie is stronger, and a narrow tie produces greater pressure.
Maximum Bundle Diameter
The Maximum Bundle Diameter refers to how wide of an object the cable tie can efficiently go around.  It is another way of describing the length of the cable tie. 

This is important as there must be enough room left to tighten and properly secure the object.
Minimum Loop Tensile Strength
The Minimum Loop Tensile Strength refers to how much weight the clasped cable tie can hold. To avoid breaking or weakening of the cable tie, it is important to ensure that the tensile strength corresponds with the weight of the object the cable tie is being used to secure.
